Validate Me, Baby!

I'm a real blogger now. I've been permalinked by not one, but two other bloggers! Thanks to Dawson Speaks and Regurgablog for linking me.

The American Spectator has an

The American Spectator has an excellent article explaining why nuclear power is the best and safest form of energy production. Good reading.

D-Day was fifty-eight years ago

D-Day was fifty-eight years ago today. The link (via Rand Simberg), leads to an excellent Atlantic Monthly article from 1960 about the largest military operation in the history of mankind.

I recently found out that my late uncle, Charles Stevens, was among the thousands of soldiers in this battle. Fortunately, he survived to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, later raising a family, and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a full-bird Colonel.

D-Day marked the beginning of the liberation of France, and ultimately of all Europe. Though my uncle survived, many soldiers died that day. I thank them for the freedom that was purchased with their blood. Perhaps the EU should pause, and do the same.

Arafat under fire

Yasir Arafat's compound was shelled today in response to the car-bombing in Megiddo yesterday. It's beyond me why the Israelis didn't just level the place.

Oh, I know that it would make Arafat a martyr (oh please please please let his wish come true?), and that it would give the terrorists an excuse, but really. How long can you restrain yourself when you are constantly under attack?

Well, it's official

19

I act like I'm 19.
This test was brought to you by Melissa - No, really.... Take it here.

If only. Actually, I was born in 1963. Do the math. Though my wife often tells me I should act my age, I don't think I'd want re-live that part of my life again for anything.

Take a gander at this

I'm no conspiracy nut, but this is disturbing. And he wasn't in jail in 1995. Truly a bizarre coincidence, if nothing else.

These guys must work for the government

I couldn't make this up if I tried:

The federal government spent $62 million on a building to store and treat low-level radioactive waste at a California nuclear weapons laboratory, then decided the structure wasn't secure enough. So where is the waste kept now? Under tents.

Yeah. We're serious about security. Maybe we should put Barney the purple dinosaur in charge of the project. At least people would run, screaming in abject terror, at the sight of him.

DIE ZEIT: Arafat Bombs, Europe Pays

This in-depth essay lays out exactly how EU money goes to the Palestinian Authority -- and what it buys.

From the article:

The man that monitors the Palestinians for [EU Commissioner Chris] Patten is himself a Palestinian. He comes from the same clan and carries the same last name as Arafat's long-time finance minister. He had even been destined for a political career under Arafat. Until Monday evening of this week the IMF man Nashashibi was going to become Arafat's new Finance Minister. Then the wind changed and Nashashibi's predecessor at the IMF is now first-in-line for the office. Arafat's financial advisor Fuad Shubaki, the man who bought the Karine-A, is proud to call IMF deputy Nashashibi "a friend".

Nothing like a little impartial oversight, I always say. Go read the rest. It should interest you.

Well, what the heck are you, then?

Eric S. Raymond gives his top ten reasons he's not a liberal. Or a conservative. I wouldn't go quite as far as he has on some of them (for instance, not all , nor even most, conservatives are villains, nor liberals fools), but they seem like a good starting point for discussion.

Hey -- we're still here!

The ABM treaty expired today. Has there been a new arms race yet? Did the Cold War return? Are the Russians blockading us? What? Nothing happened? OK. I'll go back to sleep now.

Space Shuttle Update

The space shuttle landing has been delayed again -- to Wednesday, this time. Now, tell me again why they call Florida the Sunshine State?
