Signs

I can't think of any single movie that I have ever seen in which I was terrified, laughed, and cried tears of both sadness and joy. Signs did it for me.

Mel Gibson was in fine form in this movie, as was the entire cast. With the exception of one bit character in the movie (you'll know who when you see him), I felt as if all these people were real.

One would think from the commercials that it is a movie about an alien invasion. It is not. Shyamalan has taken the background of an alien invasion to examine faith and family. This is what the movie is about, and most likely why it resonates so deeply with me.

I would highly recommend this movie. 4 out of 5 stars. Go see it.

Whither Iraq?

Andrew Sullivan gets it.

As others have said, it would appear that America and Europe are drifting apart. Can we really (other than Britain) even consider them our allies?

When the time comes, we will go into Iraq, alone, if necessary; we will do what must be done. There will be great loss of life, likely even here in the U.S., as Hussein retaliates; but it must be done. Hussein will attack Israel. Israel, as they have plainly stated, will, must, respond. I believe Soddy Arabia will be our next stop. Iran, I think, will take care of itself. They are already ratcheting up another revolution there, this time against the Mullahs.

I wonder what the Middle East will look like in five years?

A Brief History of the Middle East

Nation Review's Daniel Doron gives an excellent primer on the history of the Middle East region, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Required reading for today.

Yeah...so?

I am 45% geek
You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.

Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.

You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!

Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!

You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.
