I started getting pierced when I was 28, when I got my left ear pierced. At the time, that was still somewhat daring. I didn't discover body-piercing, though, until 1993. Over the next several years, I had new piercings done on a more or less regular basis. I've done it not for rebellion's sake, nor for some ritualistic endeavour. I realize that body-piercing is not for everyone; I just like the way it looks on me.
I have had numerous body piercings. All of them except the last were done at Obscurities in Dallas, TX. My first nontraditional piercing was a navel pierce, which was not successful. I had a 12 Ga. septum pierce, but took it out after about two months. My left ear is pierced three times (14, 12 & 10 Ga.), my right ear twice (12 & 10 Ga.). My nipples were originally pierced by Allen Falkner at 14 Ga., then stretched up to 10 Ga. over about six months. I had to take them out in '97 because they were getting really irritated. The picture above was taken in November '99 just after getting them re-pierced at 12 Ga. by Denise at South Beach Tattoo Company in Miami, FL. Unfortunately, I would not recommend her again. I've pretty much drawn the line at facial piercings. I just don't like the way it looks, plus the environment I work in (corporate America) would not survive the event.
